The beauty in CONSTANTS’ powerful music has always been about timing. The explosive Boston-based post-rock (for lack of a better tag) trio know when to bludgeon you with metal riffage and guttural lightning-bolt screams and also when to pull back the forceful sonic coating and pace themselves in lead-footed thunderous pummel. “The Sun, the Earth,” off their new third full-length, If Tomorrow the War (Science of Silence Records), succeeds at both: the production of Jesu/Godflesh’s Justin K. Broadrick combines a ferocious rock assault with a moody, atmospheric sound that borders on a batshit, Adderral-addled take on experimental psych. Constants celebrate their album-release party tonight, October 14, at Great Scott with our city’s own frantic post-hardcore dudes Daniel Striped Tiger and Brooklyn post-rock duo Lymbyc Systym.
