Spent this past Thursday evening out in Brighton’s subterranean depths, where synthpop duo Stereo Telescope helped christen a new basement show space. About a dozen friends gathered for the band’s performance, which doubled as a video shoot for an upcoming Stereo Telescope release, and a trial run to test out the room, complete with visuals effects and a fair amount of red wine.
Saturday night at T.T. The Bear’s — during failed efforts to wrestle the high score on the Cambridge venue’s music trivia bar machine away from the dudes in Teenage Fanclub, in between sets by Night Fruit and Static Of The Gods — Stereo Telescope’s Nikki Dessingue told On The Download that the space will be used for occasional word-of-mouth shows and recording sessions. The place doesn’t have a name as of yet, though “Hate House” has been bandied about, she said. It certainly flows off the tongue. My suggestion to go with a “Haus” spelling was ignored and we went back to the trivia game.
In the clip above, Stereo Telescope performs “Geography,” which was also the Phoenix’s MP3 of the Week back in August, so hey, all this ties in quite nicely. Keep eyes locked on online forums and Allston’s three public bulletin boards for news of the next basement show out in Brighton, and be sure to bring a wine glass.
