Harpers Ferry to close this month

Harpers Ferry in Allston is closing on Halloween night. Rumors circulated earlier this week that the Brighton Avenue bar and live music venue was shutting down by the end of the year, but this morning Harpers Ferry confirmed that the end of a four-decade run is not only in sight, but closer than anticipated.

“Due to our landlord not renewing our lease, Harpers Ferry will be closing permanently after 40 wonderful years on Oct. 31,” wrote general manager Andrew Wolan in an email to the Phoenix.

Harpers Ferry has been the site for numerous local and national concerts, the 2007 and 2008 WBCN Rock N’ Roll Rumble -- won by Township and Girls Guns & Glory, respectively -- and most recently, the 18-plus electro dance party, Paper.

Allston's Love In Stockholm celebrate their album release party tonight with Biscuits and Gravy, Trees on Fire and Miss Fairchild, and the rest of the weekend features Grateful Dead tribute band Playin’ Dead on Saturday and Delhi 2 Dublin, Copal and Cirkestra on Sunday.

Harpers' final show, on Halloween night, welcomes New Orleans' Soul Rebels Brass Band.

Among the notable post-Halloween, now-orphaned gigs include That Handsome Devil on Nov. 6, Azure Ray on Nov. 12 and, of course, Bonerama's three-week Thursday night residency, Nov. 4, 11 and 18.

Get in while you can, kids.
