STREIGHT ANGULAR’s “Are You Ever Satisfied” is a musical journey through relationship psychology. The lovers’ exchange of “Are you ever satisfied/No I’m never satisfied” reaches hypnotic levels over a Pixies-esque alt-rock groove before frontman Al Polk crashes the spoken lyrical volley with a heavy, baritone-fed chorus. Then midway through, like most relationships, it gets messy — the track becomes fidgety, restless, and intentionally fucked up, like a slowly disappearing Michael J. Fox playing guitar with Marvin Berry & the Starlighters during the climactic scene of Back to the Future. Before flying off the rails completely, it eases back into its boy vs. girl discourse about satisfaction. It’s a trip. Streight Angular open for Minus the Bear at WFNX’s Lansdowne Pub Disorientation Series on September 26; meanwhile, the “Are You Ever Satisfied” MP3 is available below.
