Last night the ravishing Marina and the Diamonds kicked off a stacked fall lineup of shows at the freshly renovated Paradise Rock Club. Any traces of dinge have been lifted and in its place, a chic glow that gives off similar vibes to the dearly departed Avalon. It even had a new shoe smell. And Marotta's observations regarding the layout are pretty spot on, with the biggest improvement being the removal of the long hallway entrance.
So it seemed only appropriate that for the re-opening of a hip new club, a hip new band would have to play. And Marina delivered with a set that ran through much of her stunning debut LP, The Family Jewels. Above you can find a clip of my personal favorite of hers, "I Am Not a Robot", and below, an encore cover of crunkcore group (Wikipedia's words, not mine) 3OH!3's "Starstrukk". Masterful job of turning an unlistenable lump of shit into a chill-inducing ballad of love lost.
