Oh hey, remember the Ting Tings? The pop-drunk UK indie rock duo has a new song floating around the Interwebs today, and they’re taking that whole “listen to it by submitting your email” trend to a whole new social-networking e-level.
For folks to hear the predictably electro-pop track “Hands,” you first have to -- gasp! -- “like” their Facebook page. Asking to straight-up be your friend might have been too creepy.
Musically, I guess it’s no real surprise the Ting Tings went La Roux on us. There is only two of them and it must have been hard holding down that dancey guitar-fed indie rock sound from 2008’s doesn’t-really-hold-up-when-not-shithammered-and-dancing-late-on-a-Friday-night debut album We Started Nothing. Sign of the times, we suppose, and electro-pop is what we expect/demand from our duos these days. Everyone deserves a Stacey Q reinvention, and this song, while a bit contrived, isn't terrible. It's actually a bit catchy, though I'm resisting the urge to change the lyrics to "Clap your hands if you're trying too hard." But I won't.
Anyway, there’s more Facebook pan-handling. If you “share” the Ting Tings’ Facebook post -- meaning you post it to your own wall in revealing that yes, you like the Ting Tings and want the world to know -- then you receive permission to listen to the “Low Sunday Indie Fix” remix.
What’s that sound like? You're on your own with that one.
