You know how on Christmas morning you get a new toy and all you want to do is play with it until it breaks? Well, that’s how I’m rolling with this fancy new Flipcam handed to me by the Phoenix. After work yesterday I swung by Christopher Columbus Park down by the waterfront, and shot some grass-level video of the New Collisions’ afternoon performance with Sarah Borges & the Broken Singles. It was the second of a four-week Tuesday afternoon city-sponsored concert slate dubbed the Waterfront Performing Arts Series, and I'll be the first to say that Boston needs more 6 p.m. shows.
It was fun to catch up with the guys and gal in the NewCols, who after becoming Boston’s new new wave darlings last year are ready to shed the revivalist label and stake a case for their own creativity and originality. After a relatively quiet 2010, their debut album The Optimist drops this fall, with a release party set for Oct. 9 at Great Scott alongside Spirit kid and the Charms.
