Yeah yeah, we know it's already July 7, but there are still 22 shows left this month at the House of Blues front room and anything that promotes free local music deserves our attention despite us sleeping hard on Badstreet and Ecklund Power Trio. Once again, the schedule pulled together by local promoter Josh Allain looks pretty tight, and we're already psyched to the moon over the Night Fruit and Streight Angular gig on July 23.

It was a scene out of... well, out of somewhere else.
The day before most of us got caught up in patriotic Fourth
of July revelry, the folks at the Starlab practice space and recording studio
in Union Square, Somerville had a few friends over, hosted some bands and cooked some food. It was an outdoor rock n’ roll show and flea market all in the name of fixing up Starlab,
which needed funds to repair water damage in its basement and bang out some
unpaid back rent the new managers inherited from the old regime.
Last week on the interwebs we marveled at the guy who marveled at a Yosemitebear Mountain double rainbow -- so it was only a matter of time before new life was injected into it and it got re-imagined as a song.
Have at it now before it's irrelevant tomorrow, and for posterity, here's the orgasmic original video.
While most were looking up at the fireworks over the Charles late Sunday night, WFNX 101.7 FM was offering up the best in local rock. Here's the complete play list, straight from the lovely lips of New England Product host Dave Duncan:
SILVERSUN PICKUPS headlined the big outdoor stage at the WFNX CLAMBAKE this past weekend, and were quite clearly up to the task. Below, we have a bunch more video, plus photos and audio of WFNX's interview with the band.

METRIC headlined the indoor portion of the WFNX CLAMBAKE, meaning they didn't go on until somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 am. But as the videos show, nobody seemed to mind too much. More video, photos, and audio below.

Anyone who has heard slash seen the video for Katy Perry's latest syrupy
single "California Gurls" can agree that it has the unique effect of
making one want to insert bamboo shoots directly into one's eardrums
while violently California Hurling. We felt the very same way. That is,
until we stumbled across this amazing video of a very talented group of
gay men re-making the music video.
GOGOL BORDELLO performed acoustic at the first annual WFNX CLAMBAKE this past Sunday, much like their previous performance for WFNX at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown. We have photos, audio, and more video below.
VIDEO: Gogol Bordello, "Avenue B"
The first annual WFNX CLAMBAKE went off this past Sunday, which meant MATT AND KIM were doing their thing on the big outdoor stage on Lansdowne Street. Check out photos and the audio of WFNX's conversation with them below.

What happens in the Fall Out of the break-up of pop-punks biggest
Boy band? Fierce electro-pop, evidently. This just in: Pete
Wentz has finally provided an explanation for all that pretty
eyeliner...he just wants to dance. According to NME,
Wentz has not been slacking in the hiatus following the abrupt,
Twitter-fueled death of Fall Out Boy a few months back.

most people who listen to music a lot, I get easily fatigued hearing
people verbally hand-wring over the future of music, technology, and
the various synergy thereof. But that didn't stop me from snatching up
a free pass to this past weekend's Vice Magazine/Intel blowout, held at
the Meatpacking District's Milk Studios.
How many awesome things can you find in this
video? It's not a game; it's a legitimate question. Dan ‘Danimal' Konopka,
drummer for think-outside-the-music-video-box OK Go (treadmills! a Rube Goldberg
machine!) faces off in a hardcore staring contest with a muppet. With Animal to
be precise. You know we dig us some
07.02 | MANUEL DE
LA MARE @ Rise | Last time an Italian DJ came to town, Pauly D left
behind a sticky mix of Axe and Ice Spiker. So Italy's
own (like, real Italy) Manuel
de la Mare, who must be pissed at his country's showing in the World Cup, has
something to prove. And the DJ/producer and Beatport Top 10 mainstay has a
versatile mix of deep house and techno perfect for all-night ragers.
