RIP Vic Chesnutt (1964 - 2009)

The year in high-profile tragedies that was 2009 was not about to go down without taking one more from us. Singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt passed away on Christmas Day after an overdose of pills. Kristin Hersh, a good friend of Chesnutt's, first reported the news on Twitter, calling it a suicide attempt.

Even if you aren't familiar with Chesnutt's music or his story (he was partially paralyzed in a car accident at age 18), you likely know many of his friends and collaborators. In addition to Hersh, he had inspired Michael Stipe, Patti Smith, and Jeff Mangum, all of whose remembrances can be found on Constellation's site.
