Vegan Ice Cream Social Goes Bad: E-Marce Arrested

We were gonna blog about this "secret" party that Eric "E-Marce" Marcelino threw on Saturday night, which sounded like an interesting idea when he posted it on Facebook (to wit: nobody knew the location until day-of), and turned out to be a fun time at an unorthodox location -- a vegan ice-cream shop across the street from Symphony Hall. Lots of sweaty young folks dancing, free sushi, Texas Mike killing it on the ones and twos. We caught up with E-Marce at the jam, comisserated with him on the lack of 18-plus dance nights in Boston, had a few shots, and took off just after midnight. Shortly thereafter, unbeknownst to us, the party got a little more interesting. Then, to add insult to injury, the Boston Police Department beat us to posting about it. Sigh. So for our  "party of the week" blog post, we go to the police blotter, which sums things up better than we can -- AND HAS A BETTER ICE-CREAM-PUN HEADLINE TO BOOT.

Boston Police Scoop up Two for Serving Alcohol to Minors

On Sunday, March 1, 2009, at approximately 12:50am, Officers assigned to Area D-4 (South End), responded to the area of 334 Massachusetts Avenue for reports of loud music and a fight.

Officers arrived on-scene and located a large group outside of Wheeler’s Ice Cream Parlor. Officers observed the windows of the store to be “blacked out” for they were covered with sheets of black nylon, giving the illusion that the store was closed. Officers entered the store and discovered 60 to 70 individuals congregating within, consuming alcohol and listening to music emanating from a large DJ system.

Upon further investigation, it was learned that a large number of the individuals were under the legal drinking age of Twenty-One. Partygoers informed officers that they received a wristband for admittance after paying a Ten-Dollar cover charge. Once inside, they were served beer & shots of alcohol. They further stated that they learned of the establishment through the Wheeler’s Ice Cream Parlor’s Facebook page.

Two individuals identified themselves to officers as the managers of the business but were unable to produce any permits to operate it. One of the parties stated, “This is an ice cream store as well as a bar”.

Officers arrested Eric Marcelino, 27 of Acushnet & Rodeye Mckiedhem, 41, of Cambridge on the charges of Disturbing the Peace, Procuring Alcohol for Minors and Sale / Furnishing Alcoholic Beverages to Persons Under the Age of Twenty-One.
