DOWNLOAD: Hats and Glasses, "Andrew" (mp3)
We've never seen them wear hats, and only two-thirds of them sport prescriptive eyegear, so maybe they're just trying to go incognito -- or Google incognito, at least. Refreshingly devoid of gimmickry, H+G play rock and roll that's quirky, spirited, and somehow instantly classic. Their new EP hints at honky-tonk, reeks of trebly insouciance, and boasts the signature bad-ass bass tone beloved of Amphetamine Reptile bands. Even with dual lead singers and a drummer who doubles up on keys, it’s a zillion miles from indie-rock -- but often just as obscure, as in the under-two-minute zinger "Andrew," a ridiculously catchy song about a friendship gone sour. The EP it comes from won't be out until September, but you can download the entire disc in advance of H+G's national tour, which kicks off this Sunday at an undisclosed location in Boston. We don't want to ruin it for anyone, but maybe PM someone over here and they'll give you details. People who knew OTD in 1994 can go to the street we lived on back then and you will be very close.
