The Hidden

Before emo kids and Hot Topic discovered goth metal, it sounded a lot less like AFI and a lot more like Samhain. Which is something you don't have to tell New Bedford warhorses the HIDDEN. Their old band Medea Connection drew up weirder sci-fi plots than Coheed and Cambria, their new riffs will knock Alkaline Trio's teeth down their throats, and their singer does the best Danzig impersonation this side of Type O Negative. The new Hidden EP, produced by Steve Albini, is Smash to Ashes, and they'll celebrate its release tonight with brain-damaging motorpunks CRASH AND BURN and pig-fuck vaudevilleans STU WALKER Middle East upstairs, 472 Mass Ave, Cambridge 617.864.EAST.

Oh, also: Coheed and Cambria are at the Palladium. They're fun live, in a "hey-let's-sing-along-with-lyrics-that-make-no-sense" kinda way.

But getting bak to the subject at hand: we were going to post an exclusive MP3 by the Hidden. Then we left the file at home. So we'll make you a deal: if tonight's show sells out, we'll post a Hidden exclusive on Monday. And believe us, you want to hear this. It appears only on a separate new EP that the band is selling only at shows.

LISTEN: The Hidden, "The Goat" (mp3)
LISTEN: Medea Connection, "Together We Explode (Dave Pino radio mix)" (mp3)
