The Voodoo That You Do

1. Just back from the Voodoo Music Fest in New Orleans (click for VH1 footage), the newly bulked-up Trent Reznor is in town. What's up with the Danzig physique? Mebbe all the carbohydrates from the trends and styles he's been absorbing lately: over the past decade, he's curated industrial-strength dance music in the way that Bowie once did for glam rock and Madonna does for pop. The past two NINE INCH NAILS albums have favored softer palettes and sullen ambivalence, but - perhaps invigorated by a new generation of goth punks who aren't afraid to dance - he borrowed a few tricks (and commissioned a remix) from the DFA on his ferocious return to form, With Teeth. With QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 (about which more below), they're at the TD Banknorth Garden, Causeway St at North Station, Boston 617.931.2000. Above photo by producer, noise fiend, and longtime Boston scene anchor Bill T. Miller. Oh, guess we should also add remix.

2. QOTSA play a not-so-secret Newbury Comics/Newbury Street show tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10 pm, wristbands available tomorrow beginning at 6 pm. Details.

3. OK, sure, we thought it was a little petty when the DFA -- famous New York remixers, hipster Neptunes, taking Britney's calls and whatnot -- sued a little two-piece bass-and-drums punk band from Canada called Death from Above. But now that shit's starting to look prescient. It's not just that, as we predicted pre-name-change, they've gotten really big -- it's also that now DFA1979's Jesse Keeler is doing house remixes for indie-rock bands (!), albeit under the less-lawsuit-inducing name MSTRKRFT. We meant to corner Juliette Lewis about this when she rode through a couple weeks ago, since the Licks just got the treatment. If you were the real DFA, authors of the best "Hand That Feeds" remix, you might be just a little nervous that the other DFA are now on tour with NIN. (Well, not really. We have a feeling Murphy kinda did that one for the $$.)

LISTEN: go check out MSTRKRFT's remix of Juliette and the Licks' "Got Love To Kill" at the Prettiest Pony.
