R. Kelly's Closet

If you were at the most recent Punk Rock Flea Market -- the one that kicked off the NEST fest -- you might've encountered a booth where some dood was recording random people performing their own versions of R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" epic. Perhaps you wondered what the fuck was up with that. Now we have an answer.

R. Kelly's Closet is sort of an ultra-mega fansite for the series, modeled after (and run by the same people responsible for) the Jay-Z Construction Set, which appeared sometime after the first dozen Grey Album knockoffs. On the one hand, RKC is an open-source art prank credited to one Claire Channel. On the other hand, it's got all kinds of great Closet-iana, from the obvious (parts 1-5) to the sublime (the Trey Songs answer track and the Harry Potter parody) to the plain old weird (the aforementioned "DIY a-cappellas," recorded by random punk rock flea marketeers, open studios attendees, and others). And it also affords you the ability to chop, splice, and/or add your own link to the story.

We have no idea why Claire hasn't discovered parts 6-8 yet. Except for the usual reasons, of course: indie-rock nerds are just perpetually late on African-American pop culture. Tune in next week, when Claire shaves her beard and discovers DJ Screw!
