Nirvana Sells Out (Oasis, too)

Amidst all the tempting Halloween show action going on last night, me and the OTD 'rents opted for the Middle East Upstairs showcase, if only because half of Team Zissou were in the band Velvet Morning, who started off the night slaying Radiohead's OK Computer. A venue comfortably packed at the start of the VM's set was sold out well before the witching hour. Our facorite local alt-comedians the Walsh Brothers took the stage long enough to compare the shakiness resulting from your average haunted-house ride to what Parkinsons' victims deal with every day. Next up: Nirvana's In Utero as reproduced by Raymond -- who, as it happened, were actually playing their last show under the than name, and will henceforth be known officially as Hooray For Earth. ("It's an extremely sarcastic comment on humanity," their bio claims, "so don't go jumping to the 'jam band' assumption.") And closing out the night was the Luxury, an actual band that was formed during a practice for an Oasis cover band, here performing -- you guessed it -- a set devoted to Oasis's Definitely Maybe.
