Avenged Sevenfold

Sorry. We just felt like running a picture of Avenged Sevenfold. We know we shouldn't like them -- it's sorta like back in the 1980s, how a bunch of dudes in Slayer shirts secretly owned a Tesla record -- but we do. For everyone who managed to keep his or her torch lit for Guns N' Roses and the Misfits through the grungy 1990s, there's now a champion, albeit one that's slouching towards metalcore's Gomorrah. Their new City of Evil (Warner Bros), does Maiden without the irony and Metallicized melody sans Nickelbacky schlock. And dude: for a band that does goth theatrics, D&D-dork lyrics, and nasally emo singing, they're awful good. They're at the Palladium, 261 Main St, Worcester 7 pm $17 800.447.6849.
