New Mr. Lif verse

I, Perceptionist.

If you missed the Perceptionists tour kickoff/going-away party, Elisabeth Donnelly's got a recap in this week's ish. And as it happens, there's new Liffage afoot. This comes from a mixtape by the new Jacksonville supercrew Asamov. Lif/Perceptionists/Asamov have a history of shared productions, DJs, and sensibilities. Lif's track is also the first single from Asamov's debut album And Now . . . , which drops October 18. While this track below is not generally our flavor (it's a Dora thing we wouldn't understand), it's not terrible. (The "video," on the other hand: uh-oh.) The fake guitars could be a little faker, if you ask us, but there's something appealingly Velvety and Undergroundish about the chords. It has got, as the track never misses an opportunity to remind us, "soul." And there's certainly nothing wrong with Lif, who generates earthquakes with bonesaws and golf metaphors. Just the kind of thing you'll hear more of on October 29 at Harpers Ferry, when Lif will debut some new solo material.
