Free Tickets: Dirty Three, John Vanderslice

1. Not long ago, it suddenly dawned on us: "Hey, aren't we the media sponsor for this Museum of Fine Arts concert series? The one with Black Dice, Magnolia Electric Co, the Books, and Four Tet? The one that's got the indie nerds going nuts?" "Uh, yeah, I guess." "Do we have a guest list?" "Probably. Why?" "Couldn't we just snarf the guest list and give it away to our friends?" "Yes, but that would be stealing." "OK, what if we snarfed the guest list and gave it away to our readers?" "Oh, that's fine. That's just . . . marketing!"

So marketing it is.

We got our asses in gear too late to give away tickets to the Furnaces (see below) -- we had 'em though, Cami was gonna hold a haiku contest and everything. To make up for it, we're coming at you early for the next show in the series: the Dirty Three, October 16 at the MFA's Remis Auditorium. The most stoned OTD has ever been was the night Dirty Three and Low played Mama Kin, the Aerosmith bar on Lansdowne Street. If you were there, you may have stepped over a figure writhing on the floor in brownie-induced agony/ecstasy. OK, flashback over. We've got ten tickets to give away. Email us at onthedownloadatbostonphoenixdotcom and tell us why you want 'em. Deadline for responses is Thursday at 5 pm, and best five responses get a pair. Or something. We're a little new at this. (Someone maybe email us and tell us what we should make people do for tickets? Besides, like, sign a waiver agreeing not to yell "Freebird"?)

Boston Phoenix presents the Dirty Three and Chris Brokaw at the Museum of Fine Arts on Sunday, October 16. Even if you don't get lucky from us, tickets are still available here.

2. We've also got your hookup for the John Vanderslice and Portastatic gig at the Middle East on October 16. (Check tomorrow's Phoenix for big-long interview with Portastatic/Superchunk/Merge Records superman Mac McCaughan.) Just be one of the first 50 people to send a text message to the number "22122" with the word "Vanderslice." You'll get a reply that will serve as yr free ticket to the show. If you want us to explain how this works more in depth, well, we have no idea. We just know it has something to do with our new-media division and a deal they've got with the MidEast.
