Home stands

1. We've been saying it for like a year, but having these shows the same night is just stupid. Like, how many fans of New England protest rap are there? Expect, like, dozens of shout-outs to area sports teams -- and also some ranting against The Man -- when the PERCEPTIONISTS broke celebrate their Boston Music Award (snarf!) at the Paradise, 967 Comm Ave in Boston, 617.562.8800. Meanwhile SAGE FRANCIS tries to get over his little-state complex with Sol.iLLaquists of Sound and Sole at the Roxy, 279 Tremont St, Boston 9 pm $18 617.931.2000.

2. "ADIDAS NIGHT," a new hip-hop/reggae/R&B weekly at Europa, has DJ Rebel-1 on the decks, giveaways at the door, and short sets by some of Boston's best street-level talent. Tonight it's R DA FACT, a Worcester transplant with a new thugged-out slab of straight 'hood gully that's tearing up the concrete. 51 Stuart St, Boston 617.482.3939.

3. Along with his mentor Brian Eno, DANIEL LANOIS helped change the face of rock: in transforming a mulleted Irish post-punk band into megastars, he exported "ambient" music techniques from the classroom to the arena. And thanks to his work with Emmylou Harris, he should get a royalty every time a folkie plugs in a drum machine. Lanois's influence filtered down as well as up, finding followers and fans in indie's "post-rock" underground. The band most often saddled with that tag, TORTOISE, serve as his backing band for a tour that kicks off tonight, behind Lanois's new solo album Belladonna (Anti-) at Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Sq, Somerville 617.931.2000.
