Talking heads

Until the HOLD STEADY came along, anyone wanting to rant over bar-band backing for a living had to pry the general concept from the cold dead hands of King Missile and M. Doughty. But frontman Craig Finn has proved you can get people (at least the ones who put bands on the cover of the Village Voice once every 15 years) to geek out over Lou Reed-ish sing-speak street poetry about smacked-out Catholic schoolgirls, and journeyman-like whammy-bar rock. No matter what you heard, the Hold Steady have never slept with your little hoodrat friend, but front-rowers beware: Finn talks with his hands. They're at T.T. the Bear's Place, 10 Brookline St, Cambridge 617.492.BEAR.
