Organ-ized confusion

From his private club, the Spellcaster Lodge, in New Orleans's Ninth Ward, the uncanny organist, inventor, and all-purpose entertainer Mr. Quintron has been spewing a stream of (be)low-fi releases attesting to his affinity for malfunctioning drum machines, pre-transistor electric gadgetry, medicine-show novelty hokum, and avant-garde noise. His creative leap, a few years back, was the realization that the Crescent City's native brand of hip-hop (in his phrase, the "No Money Cash Limit" axis) is built on pretty much the same mix. His most recent album, Are You Ready for an Organ Solo, is one of Calvin Johnson's favorite records to play at parties: "It’s fucking brilliant," he told OTD a while back. "When I put it on, everyone’s first reaction is, ‘What is this?’ But by the time they figure it out, they’re already on the dance floor." With his puppet-wielding better half, Miss Pussycat, in tow, Quintron's at the Jorge Hernández Cultural Center, 85 West Newton St, Boston with the Konks + Ghetto Fighters 8 pm $10 617.927.1730.
