Illinoise

Before.

After.

If you're looking for Pitchfork apologists, you'll have to surf elsewhere. But the state of rock-crit-dom is getting on towards ridiculous when people are calling LATECOMER ** at someone who reviews the album the day it comes out. Just sayin'. But having said, how is it all these folks got room to talk shit when they have so much Sufjan Stevens dick in their mouths? Kid strums a nice guitar, but indiefolk collectively needs to get a grip. Not like he's the second-coming of Jeff Mangum or something.

Superman may not be Sufjan's friend, but who needs the man of steel when you've got the indie-yuppies of NPR on your jock? For the impatient, a pair of NPR producers did a story on an Arkansas town where a rare bird is discovered. Then they sent the tapes to Sufjan, who wrote a song about it. Here it is:

Sufjan Stevens, "The Lord God Bird" (mp3)

** UPDATE/Correction/rebuttal. Dreams of Horses' Michael Copfer checks in:

"You know I don't appreciate being misinterpreted. You accused me of
calling Pitchfork latecomers for reviewing the album when I was really
commenting on the fact that they were one of the last people to post
the news about the album's delay."
Right he is: we got it twisted. And Michael has since helpfully ammended his original post with a clarification: the item had links to both the Pitchfork review and its news blurb, posted a WHOLE FIVE DAYS after DOH's item, about the album's delay. Woe to those semi-trad-media types who take a long 4th of July weekend while the young-and-hongry bloggerazzi are laptop grinding.
