1. Boston major-indie-label-rock fans STAND UP! This is your so-called life calling! We've got the Interpols and Der Killers and stuff! Listen to our radio station! . . . Uh, sorry. Sort of going through Best Music Poll-hype-exhaustion over here. Seriously, though, for those of us who remember what the FNX show looked like a few years ago, this year's edition is a really, really, really, really good thing. And look, what's with the salty we're-too-good-for-Dresden Dolls attitudes? Some girl finally gets her facepaint-and-"War Pigs" game on, puts performance art and pianos on smash, takes it international, and dudes at the pool table in the backroom at T.T.'s on a Monday night are like "Oh, she's too commercial?" "Oh, she didn't treat Ad Frank right?" (Would we be hearing that if we were talking about, I dunno . . . Aaron Perrino's ex-girlfriend or something? Just sayin.) All that said, this thing was pretty damn funny.

From the site of his lo-wattage, high-prestige Ecstatic Peace label: "Black Helicopter is a rodent riddled dirge outfit composed of 4 wiley boston vets. subtle and chopsy licks wrapped around butch chunks of forceful movement. Otherwise known as framingham blues. They're opening the SY shows in Providence and Queens this weekend [Ed note: don't freak, this was back in April] in preparation for their forthcoming full length release on ecstatic peace. Give love." Additional lurking reveals an album title, Invisible Jet, and anticipated release time-frame: late summer.
