Tiny avalanches

1. Before we get to Cave In: If you've been listening to the radio lately you may have heard a Dropkick Murphys song called "Sunshine Highway." It's a SINGLE, people, and sunny choruses are what singles are for. We just want to emphasize: The Warrior's Code is mostly not like that. Proof:

2. Where In the World Is Steve Brodsky?

If it's Memorial Day Weekend, he must be . . . in London? Yep, Cave In's frontman is in England on the solo tip. Why should you care? Because someone over there in official-type capacity posted the demo from Steve's new solo/band Octave Museum! We're psyched: we've been sitting on these for six months (and yes, they've been streaming on MySpace for a minute), but now you can have 'em on your iPod. All three songs are ridiculously catchy, in swirling folk/psych-pop mode. Less obviously indebted to Elliott Smith than ever before! Octave Museum (Scissorfight's Kevin Shurtlief on drums, the guy from Thee Electric Bastards on bass) plays T.T. the Bear's on June 11.

While you're there, grab the tune that first cued us into Brodsky's metaldude-as-folksinger magic:

Cave In, "Burning Down the Billboards" (mp3, via bloodrobot)

Speculation running rampant on Cave In's message board that the band is kaput, though we don't see anything there that Steve didn't say the last time he checked in with us. Wouldn't surprise us, though. Unless things have radically changed, there's still a new "album" -- their pre-production demos for what would've been RCA album #2 -- coming out sometime this year on Hydrahead.
