Forgive me, Tim White, for I have sinned

Tim White, WPRI-TV's ace investigative reporter, is becoming the man to go to for your comeuppance.

First, it was Congressman David Cicilline, who began his "apology tour" with White, seeking forgiveness for declaring the city of Providence in "excellent" fiscal condition during the 2010 campaign. And now it is former Republican Governor Donald Carcieri, who breaks his silence on the 38 Studios debacle with a White interview that will air, in part, on WPRI tonight at 5 and 6 pm.

Carcieri, of course, was in the governor's office when the state doled out $75 million in loan guarantees to the ill-fated video game company.

Going before White is an interesting choice. He is a tough, well-prepared interviewer. And going head-to-head with the reporter comes with some risk. Indeed, Carcieri was known during his days as governor for working around mainstream outlets - the Providence Journal in particular - and seeking out the friendly confines of talk radio.

But White lends a certain legitimacy to the exercise. Carcieri - and Cicilline before him - couldn't be accused of seeking the easy way out. And that's a testimony to the interviewer.
