In the Phoenix: Decriminalizing Matt Jerzyk

Actually, there's nothing criminal about Matt Jerzyk. Not since he cut off that ponytail, anyway. I was just smooshing together our two main features in this week's Phoenix.

Jerzyk is a (formerly ponytailed) activist-turned-insider: a lefty bomb thrower and shrewd political organizer who now holds a key post in Providence Mayor Angel Taveras' administration. Dan McGowan, one of our contributors, has a great profile of the man - a piece that has already received plenty of love on Twitter (shameless plug, speaking of Twitter: follow me @d_scharfenberg).

I've also got a piece on the little-noticed push to decriminalize possession of an ounce or less of marijuana in this state. The separate, drawn-out battle to erect a workable medical marijuana regime in Rhode Island has received most of the ink. But our pot politics doesn't end there.

We've also got a look at Record Store day, which arrives this Saturday, and our usual crack reporting on local art and music. Take a read, people.
