On the Podium

From the toot-your-own horn department: the Phoenix took home a couple of awards at the Rhode Island Press Association's annual fete on Friday night. We got a gold in the religion category for my piece on a Brown University biology professor who has attempted to reconcile evolution and religion. And we got a bronze in the education category for my story on Teach for America and its Rhode Island landing.

Congrats to the other winners and to three inductees into the association's Hall of Fame: Carol Young, retired deputy executive editor at the Providence Journal, Linda Levin, a former Journal reporter who has taught journalism to countless students at URI, and Kimball Burgess, longtime owner and publisher of the Greenville Observer - and cheerleader for the suburban weekly.
