The Phoenix's Awards Haul
The Providence Phoenix gathered a nice little clutch of awards at this weekend's New England Newspaper & Press Association's annual fete - this one covering work from mid-2009 to mid-2010.
The paper took first place in the religious reporting category for a piece on Brown University biology professor Ken Miller's quest to reconcile religion and evolutionary theory - to the consternation of the atheist crowd. The Phoenix won first- and second-place prizes in the social issues category, for stories on pro-life pregnancy counseling centers and the road map to ending homelessness in Rhode Island. We also won a third-place prize in the environmental reporting category for a piece on the push for an off-shore wind farm here.
Yours truly was also a finalist for the New England Journalist of the Year in the weekly category. But alas, I fell a bit short. Something to shoot for this year. Thanks to our readers for all the support.
