Reed's Office Confirms Ad

GoLocalProv, in a nice little scoop, reported yesterday that Senator Jack Reed would record a TV ad endorsing Democrat Frank Caprio for governor and that the other statewide Democratic candidates had been asked to show up.

Reed's office confirmed the ad last night with an e-mail:

Reed filmed a campaign commercial today with several Democratic candidates. As you know, he supports the endorsed ticket.

There was a minor political controversy when endorsed Providence Democratic mayoral candidate Steven Costantino touted a letter Jack Reed wrote supporting his candidacy. Reed's office played the endorsement down as nothing out of the ordinary - saying the senator always endorses the Democratic slate.

Anyhow, the big winner with this ad is undoubtedly Caprio, who needs to shore up his bona fides with Democratic voters, defecting to his independent opponent Lincoln Chafee in large numbers.
