UPDATE: Carcieri Among Nation's Worst Governors?

Carcieri spokeswoman Amy Kempe is calling CREW's ranking a "ridiculous" and "comical" enterprise. "They were so responsible and ethical," she says of the organization, "as to never contact this office."

Noting that nine of the 11 governor's on the group's list are Republicans, she says CREW has "an agenda."

"Governor Carcieri is one of the most accessible, ethical, and transparent elected officials to serve in Rhode Island," she says.

Washington-based Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has named Governor Carcieri among the 11 worst governors in the nation, in a GOP-heavy list that includes Haley Barbour of Mississippi and Bobby Jindal in Louisiana. CREW's charges against Carcieri (nothing terribly new here):

Hired his niece in violation of Rhode Island’s anti-nepotism laws

Failed to adequately manage his state’s logistics and staffing needs

Violated campaign finance laws by soliciting subordinates, accepting luxury gifts and missing a filing deadline

Impeded the public’s access to information and blocked pro-transparency legislation
