Hitting the newsstands today, one of our most popular issues: the Best of Rhode Island. Readers and editors pick their fave restaurants and bars and even the best one-stop pop culture shop.
And I've got a couple of pieces, in the issue, on the Providence mayoral race - one on former Mayor Joseph R. Paolino, Jr.'s talk of an independent bid for his old job and a longer piece on Angel Taveras, who just might be the first Latino mayor of the capital city.
Taveras has plenty of potential : a compelling personal story, no obvious competition - at the moment - for a progressive East Side-South Side coalition, and opponents who could very well split the more traditional white ethnic vote. But potential is just that - potential.
The task for Taveras and his campaign manager Lauren Nocera: converting that potential into a potent political operation. We'll be watching.
