Clean Elections Talk

For those who dare to dream, a talk on publicly funded elections at Brown:

PROVIDENCE, RI (April 2, 2010) -- Lawrence Lessig will address the current crisis in the nation's democracy and the need for citizen funded elections in a lecture at Brown University on Friday April 9 at 5:00 PM.

Lessig, a professor at Harvard Law School, is a founder of Change Congress (fixcongressfirst.org) , which is promoting a grassroots movement to end corruption and restore democracy in our nation. The event at Brown is one of a series of campus talks by Lessig to engage citizens and especially young people around the need for citizen funded elections. In the lecture, Lessig will illuminate the problem the US is facing with the influence of money in our political system, and how this issue affects policy decisions that impact the everyday lives of citizens.

The Brown chapter of Democracy Matters, a campus-based project of Common Cause, is sponsoring the event.

Change Congress is a non-partisan advocacy organization whose sole purpose is to protect the independence of Congress by fighting the influence of money in politics.

Lessig is a leading thinker on technology and Internet policy. He is the founder of Creative Commons and author of “Code,” “The Future of Ideas,” and “Free Culture.”
