Our annual fall preview of art, film et. al snags the cover of this week's Phoenix. But I've also got a piece on crisis pregnancy centers - a sort of pro-life answer to Planned Parenthood. The centers got millions in federal aid during the Bush years and have been a lightning rod in recent years, with critics accusing the centers of employing manipulative and misleading tactics in a bid to dissuade women from seeking abortions.
This was an interesting one to write. I found, at a Cranston center, an unexpected sort of leader - a former Unitarian Universalist who had dabbled in Buddhism. Not the sort of pro-life partisan one might expect. Check it out.
