R.I.P., Roberta Hawkins

Hawkins was a favorite of the late, great Jack White, who admired the intensity of her advocacy.

Via a news release, Governor Carcieri offers these words:

“Roberta Hawkins was a long time advocate for the rights of elderly Rhode Islanders, especially those living in long term care facilities. As ombudsman for the rights of the elderly she made a difference in the lives of thousands of Rhode Island residents. She was tireless in her pursuit of laws and regulations to protect the elderly from abuse and neglect and to preserve their dignity as individuals. The Directors of the Departments of Elderly Affairs, Human Resources, Health and Mental Health Retardation and Hospitals join me in expressing condolences to her family. Roberta will be greatly missed.”
