Independent to challenge Mattiello in House 15

Junior Chris Frappier, 21, recently announced his candidacy for the R.I. House of Representatives as an independent from District 15 in Cranston.

Freshman Representative Nicholas Mattiello, D-Cranston, is due to face a challenge this year:

Chris Frappier, 21, of Cranston, Rhode Island will announce his candidacy for District 15 State Representative as an independent candidate on Sunday, March 16 at the Cranston Country Club at 5 p.m.

Frappier, a junior political science and history major at the University of Rhode Island, will host a fundraiser to announce his intention to be the next representative of District 15.

"I hope to raise awareness of the campaign, and start off on the right foot toward the Rhode Island General Assembly," Frappier said.

The Cranston Country Club is located on 69 Burlingame Road in Cranston. His announcement will also serve as his first fundraiser for his campaign.

Frappier, who has been working on his announcement since November, thinks that the state of Rhode Island needs a new and more responsible direction from its leadership in Providence and intends to start that change as a state representative.

"I am running for state representative because I feel that every citizen needs to be heard and that I could offer a different outlook than our current representation. I could offer a change," Frappier said.

The Good 5-Cent Cigar at URI, which recently looked at Frappier's planned campaign, reports that a Republican may also be in the running for the seat.
