General Assembly to start 2008 on New Year's Day

Due to the fall of the calendar -- the Rhode Island Constitution mandates that new legislative sessions begin on the first Tuesday of the year -- legislators will return to work at the State House on the afternoon of January 1, New Year's Day.

"It will be mostly ceremonial," notes House spokesman Larry Berman.
