The federal government is here to help!

This following e-mail just arrived in my inbox. And how does this help, as was the case yesterday, when the roads were a) Unplowed; b) clogged with cars; or c) both?

Hi Ian,

Winter is officially upon us—as you are well aware of from the weather you are currently experiencing! In light of the forecasted weekend snowstorm in Providence, now is a great time to remind your readers about the importance of preparing for winter weather.

As you are writing winter weather articles, we wanted make you aware of the vast amount of information available on the Department of Homeland Security's Ready Campaign Web site (ready.gov). The Web site provides preparedness tips and discusses the three simple steps you can take to be "Ready" to deal with Mother Nature’s wintry weather -1) Have an emergency supply kit (a complete emergency kit checklist is on ready.gov .); 2) Make a family emergency plan (a template is also available on the Web site) and prepare your home ahead of time; and 3) Be informed about the different terms used for winter weather.

Along with all of the great information available at Ready.gov, we also have pre-written articles available - if you are interested, just let us know.

Stay safe and stay warm!

Ingela Hartman
