Early Maneuvers Continue for 2010

Although it didn't make it into my Steve Laffey story, I talked with former US Representative Bob Weygand this week after hearing some whispers that he is looking at a gubernatorial run in 2010. RI's Future recounts a response that was pretty similar to what Weygand told me, although he did go a bit further, perhaps because of the chance to respond via e-mail:

I love being in public service and particularly like my work at my alma mater, URI. I have been asked frequently to consider running for governor. Indeed, it is very flattering but I think it is very early to consider such campaign. We are already in a full presidential campaign and there is still another 17 months til the election. It’s far too early to make such a decision although I admit I have thought about it.

As previously indicated here, Providence Mayor David Cicilline had a strong fundraising quarter, doing nothing to dash expectations that he is already moving aggressively for a gov run in 2010.
