HOT BOOZEHOUNDS: Bully Boy Distillers

If it's big, it just doesn't wash these days. That's true whether we're talking about megafarm-produced food, macrobrews, or now, increasingly, spirits. Getting small, in other words, is hot. It's also historical. Massachusetts practically owes its existence to the rum trade back in colonial times. Bully Boy Distillers (, the first distillery in Boston in decades, is drawing inspiration from the days when small-batch rums made the Commonwealth run. Brothers Will and Dave Willis, who've set up shop in Roxbury, have just launched their company with two rums, a white and a dark (made with blackstrap molasses), an organic vodka, an organic white whiskey (whiskey that hasn't been aged), and an organic, red winter-wheat whiskey. Sip 'em at spots like Hungry Mother (233 Cardinal Medeiros Avenue, Cambridge, 617.499.0090) and Savin Bar & Kitchen (112 Savin Hill Avenue, Dorchester, 617.288.7500). Bully for them, and us.
