Meet the Mayor: Charlie's Kitchen
Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in their natural habitats.
Charlie's Kitchen
Joshua DeCosta
Tell us a tragic tale.
I'm a rapper, and I've been trying to get an interview or
one of my albums reviewed in the Phoenix forever. Now,
I've gotten an interview, because I'm the Foursquare mayor of Charlie's. It's
extremely painful.
You work here. I
imagine you've got loads of funny Charlie's-oriented stories.
Every day, I've had to explain to every single person trying
to find the bathroom that, yes, we only have one on each floor. I think upstairs
has two, but one might be broken. I'm not sure. I used to write chalk signs on
the wall with every single one of those bathroom questions and the answers.
So: Charlie's is a
punk-rocker bar?
That's essentially what I tell people. Upstairs is lots of
leather and T-shirts of bands that probably don't exist anymore. Downstairs is mixed.
The Beer Garden is a frat house. But the weirdest thing about working there is
this text-messaging service we use called TextMyFood.
That's a horrible
idea.
It's not used well. I've been hit on a few times through it.
Most of the girls get hit on through it. That's about all it's used for.
