Anti-Rush sentiment goes local

"We request that WGAN, which currently has 1 female host and 15 male hosts, show its support for the women of Maine by pulling Limbaugh's show from the airwaves effective immediately--and replacing his noon to 3 pm radio show with one that has a woman host."

So reads the petition, signed by 2,244 irate listeners people so far [it was pointed out to me that it's unlikely that the petitioners are regular listeneres, and I've amended this post accordingly], that's headed to the desk of Jeff Wade, program and news director at WGAN talk radio.

In case you've been living under a rock, idiot insane talk radio host Rush Limbaugh likened a Georgetown University law student a "slut" and a "prostitute" on air the other day in response to her statements about the importance of contraceptive coverage; he's since issued a lukewarm (read: bullshit) apology. The student, Sandra Fluke, had this to say about the Rush's so-called sorry:

"I don't think that a statement like this...changes anything," she said in an interview on The View. "Especially when that statement is issued when he's under significant pressure from his sponsors."

When asked by The View hosts whether she thinks Limbaugh should be fired, Fluke didn't say yes or no. But she did point out: "Americans have a long tradition of supporting companies that share the values that they have and I'm sure that they will continue to uphold that tradtion."

I share in the outrage regarding Limbaugh's tiny-minded comments, and it looks like some advertisers do too. But he's gotten away with so much racism and bigotry over the years...I'll be surprised if this incident ends up being the nail in Limbaugh's career coffin. Sensationalists like Limbaugh thrive on this stuff.
