Meet Maine's next governor
No, we're not prognosticating on who is going to win.
But if you want to learn about what the gubernatorial candidates think about the arts and the "creative economy" there's just one place to go:
www.MeetTheGovernor.com
Andres Verzosa of Aucocisco Galleries has taken it upon himself to interview each of the candidates on their views on the arts and creativity in Maine, and has posted the video of those conversations online.
And he's going one better, inviting you to participate in the second round, with each candidate visiting his gallery sometime during the month of May (see the site for the schedule) and talking to whomever happens by. (We missed one of them, which was yesterday. But we're sure that candidate can console himself with loads of free publicity from his friends at the PPH.)
An aside about the phrase "creative economy" - in my opinion, it loses meaning every time it is uttered, not least because so many people use it to mean so many different, yet still vague, things. And in truth, in a country where people can make billions of dollars selling insurance policies that will pay out if unsuspecting people are duped into taking out loans they cannot afford, and then turn out to be unable to afford them, isn't the entire economy pretty damn creative?
