Spose announces plans for new single
April 27: That's
the date overnight sensation Spose will drop the follow-up single on Universal
Republic Records to "I'm Awesome." According to the artist, it will be called
"My Sex," and feature former pop sensation Ricky Martin. Spose said it would be
more of a banger than the ironic and witty single that has rocketed him to the
top of the iTunes alternative charts, with heavier beats and a bridge portion
that will feature Martin rapping in Spanish.
While Martin has been in the news
lately for announcing he is gay, Spose said he feels the singer offers him an in
to the Latin market, where Martin retains a very successful career, and shows
that he's looking to appeal to a wide audience.
Spose called potential
detractors in the hip-hop industry "fools," saying that while homosexuality has
traditionally been off-limits in mainstream hip-hop, he thinks the market has opened up in recent years and is ready for a more inclusive attitude.
Spose said he and Martin really connected while recording the single. "He's
a dad, I'm a dad, we had a lot to talk about outside of the industry," Spose
said. But the rapper from Wells also said he learned a lot from Martin about
navigating the industry: "Dude, the guy went multiplatinum with 'La Vida Loca'
and 'Shake Your Bon-Bon.' He went through some crazy stuff. I think I learned a
lot about what not to do."
