Hearing begins #marryME

Senator Dennis Damon just got a standing ovation in the Augusta Civic Center when he stepped to the podium to testify in support of LD 1020, An Act to End Discrimination in Civil Marriage and Affirm Religious Freedom.

Lots of legislators are in attendance, including Senator Justin Alfond and Representative Diane Russell, both part of Portland's delegation. (Not to say there aren't others there - just that in the crowds those are the only Portland-delegation confirmed sightings so far.)

Quoting Thomas Jefferson and the Pledge of Allegiance, Damon pronounced that "the progress of the human mind" in our country and in Maine has moved beyond discrimination into equality for all.
