Losing elections can boost your career

Steve Meister, a not-exactly-successful seeker of the Democratic nomination in the 1st Congressional District last year (he didn't even beat Ethan Strimling), has a new job - a cushy government one at that!

He's a nice guy - we truly enjoyed meeting him and his wife when they came down to meet us during the run-up to the primary election. So we won't begrudge him too much the fact that he is now the "Maternal and Child Health Medical Director" for the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the state agency charged with protecting public health.

And he's definitely qualified - with tons of experience as a pediatrician on top of working in an emergency room treating US Marines during the first Gulf War.

But let's just theorize that he didn't hurt himself by sticking his neck out in a Democratic political way, is all.
